Green Lantern: First Flight

In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

Green Lantern: First Flight is the newest installment of DC comics straight to DVD hour length movies. This story is big! Like all Green Lantern stories it takes place in space. Oa mostly and its the story of the first Adventure of Green lantern Hal Jordan who received the ring from dieing lantern Abin Sur. Once Hal has the ring of power he travels to Oa to get acquainted with his new co-workers and the Guardians. Sinerstro is a Green Lantern and if your a fan of GL you know where this story is gonna go.

First of all this movie looks amazing, in fact i might pick up the blu-ray cause id love to see it in HD. The story is also very well done and i like the fact that its PG-13 so they get away with a lot more as far as language and violence. The action is great and even has a very special appearance by my favorite lantern Ch'p. The voice acting is fantastic and the voice actors are ones of note as well (Michael Madson, Christopher Meloni, Trisha Helfer, and Red Forman himself Kurtwood Smith). This movie is really good and definitely worth a watch. If your a Green Lantern fan you really do want to pick this up on Blu-Ray cause it just looks amazing. My only concern about this movie stems not from this movie at all but the fact that i have no idea how they are gonna pull off the live action movie with Ryan Reynolds, its gonna be an expensive movie and I don't know if Hal Jordon has the fan base for a big opening weekend but i've been wrong before.

Hopefully we get a lot more of these movies cause there fun to watch and since Justice League Unlimited is off the air we don't get these awesome DC stories as much as we'd like. The next one is line is Superman/Batman: Public Enemies which as a Superman fan i cant wait to see.

So until next time I've been me and you have been awesome for reading thank you.

Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince

Harry potter is a good story I know how it started I know how it ends. But I still get excited to see the movies when they come out. Even though The Order of The Phoenix was less than brilliant I just feel like I gotta see everything cause I’m such a fan of the story.

To start off I’d like to say the bad in this film slightly out weight the goods. So I did like this movie even though it felt like it was missing a lot. It felt like a cheese sandwich who doesn’t like cheese between two pieces of bread. Not I, I love it. But I’m always like you know what would make this better Turkey and ham you know meat and that’s what this movie lacks it felt like they scooped out the meaty bits and gave us a what was left, the base story without a lot to hold it together. It felt like this movie was basically a golf tee and “The Deathly Hallows” is the ball. So indeed this story is a set up for the next book (2 movies). So it shouldn’t be a surprise what this flick was. I dug the story, I dug this movie and I’m excited on how the next couple movies look. But this movie wasn’t my favorite (Prisoner of Azkaban) but wasn’t my least either (The Order of the Phoenix) it’ll get another watch when it hits stores but it won’t go down as the best. Which is weird that the last couple were both directed by David Yates. Maybe the next couple of them will be better third and fourth times the charm perhaps. This movie is a definite watch for Potter fans but if you haven’t seen the others watch those before checking this one out. Thanks for reading.

Warehouse 13

When I saw the commercial for this show I was excited I wanted to see a new show for the summer and it looked like an awesome premise. Two government agents sent to a hidden warehouse facility that holds some of the words most famous and unique items (ex. Houdini’s wallet, Lewis Carolls looking glass). The show is exec. Produced by Drew Z. Greenburg who worked on Buffy and some other shows I’m into so I thought I’d give it a try.

The pilot revolved around two secret service agents tapped by a secret sect of the government to retrieve these “special” items for cataloging. The agents also are not really happy about their situation protecting the president one minute getting a magic book the next. So as interested as they appear in finding these artifacts they also feel like their talents are being wasted. Anyway…….

The show has a very solid pieces but they don’t fit together right and frankly I would love to like this show but I don’t, I don’t hate it either. in fact my in deference towards it is a first for me. I usually hate everything. At this point the show has aired 2 episodes. The two hour pilot which felt like a millenia and a stand alone episode. This show is……..meh. That’s all I can say. I will give it a few more chances cause I want to like this show but its just so uninteresting. It might be the characters, it might be the story. I just don’t know. I don’t know if I will get through the whole season. Maybe I have to wait till season 2 for it to get good. I don’t have that kind of patience.

Warehouse 13 airs right before the scifi drama E.C.W. On Tuesdays at 9pm on the SyFy channel. Check out meh at its best. For now I’m outty 5000. Thanks for reading.

A Conversation

A random conversation between my cousin and me.

Charlie U: There is this girl who was singing. And she said her voice is a cross between fergie and jesus....i almost died.

Rafael U: lol what on earth would that sound like?

Charlie U: She sings fair...ly bad

Rafael U: Jesus wasn't known for his singing. And Fergie is but she's just ok at it so for once its the Jesus that brings her ratio down weird.

Charlie U: You know what is weird that shes kinda actually accurate

Rafael U: That is weird. Makes me re-think life. So when someone sings and they're bad. Don't say they need Jesus cause it'll make the singing worse. Life better, Singing worse. Hmmm

Charlie U: I heard Jesus was a sick beatboxer.

Rafael U: That's well documented and a awesome water skier. No boat needed amazing. Its all in there toward the end of the bible after the index.

Charlie U: I could have swore it was after the special introduction written by moses.

Rafael U: I got the dollar store version the first book is called "The Old Ass Testament"

Charlie U: Hah. Must be lutheran

Rafael U: It is. It also comes with a Luther Vandross cd.

Charlie U: I crack jokes like that to *** all the time.

Rafael U: Ooh is she Lutheran?

Charlie U: Yeh. And her fam is big on vandros too

Rafael U: Awesome tell her to get me a copy of limited edition King Labron James Bible.

Charlie U: lol

Adventureland

So i was bored and wanting to see something "new to me" so i decided to check out Adventureland directed by Superbad Director Greg Mattola. To start off i liked Superbad i thought it was funny even though Michael Cera played the same character he always plays in it but it was good none the less. But Michael Cera wasn't in this movie well Jesse Eisenberg was doing a great "Cera" impression almost to the point the guys are completely interchangeable in this role, that if they would of switched them mid movie no one would of noticed. This movie in the trailer is completely sold as a comedy, but its not funny at all. NOT ONE LAUGH. Its hella sweet in that i saw this coming a mile away cliched way. I didn't like this movie, i just don't think it knew what it wanted to be and when it was trying to tell the story i was just like " we've seen this all before but its taking place at a local amusement park. There were unimportant characters that just didn't need to be in this and Ryan Reynolds playing this awful subdued monotone douche and frankly he has never been worse. This movie was a complete waste of time for ME and is a definite pass for anyone over the age of 20.

Torchwood: Children of Earth

(possible mild spoiler alert)

So I got to see an "Advanced Screening" of Torchwood: Children of Earth before it aired next Monday July 20th on BBC America. The story picks up with Torchwood being the skeleton crew that they are now after the untimely death of Tosh and Owen at the end of series 2. So there in the hub doing there Torchwood thing looking for aliens and such and simultaneously all the children on the earth start saying "We are coming" of course this is a big red alert for Jack and crew and they go to investigate what is happening. This mini-series is 5 episodes long and what i like about the way they did it is they didn't spread it out over weeks or months they played it 5 days in a row. which is pretty cool. This story is a very dark one, its got it moments of lightheartedness but definitely not a happy story. Its got all the elements to a damn good Torchwood story so they didn't skip a beat. But after that ending i don't know they are going to do a proper 3rd season. I like most Doctor Who/Torchwood fans await the next installments of both series. Check it out on BBC America everyday next week starting the 20th of July 2009. This is a definite must Watch for any Torchwood fan and believe me when its over and done with you'll be just as inquisitive as i am one how they will go on!

A New York Mets Fans Lament

I'm gonna take a moment and talk a little sports with you now. Your regularly scheduled program will be with you shortly!

I've been a Mets fan all of my life. Since I could remember. My dad used to get tickets in the 80's and 90's and that's how I got into the team. I was 5 in 86 I wasn't really that much into then or old enough to remember the Miracle of 86. But I never gave up on my team EVER! They were my Mets through the years of bad trades to managers dressing up in disguises to hide from the umpires. Never got me down. For the first time in my life I don't care. I give up. Not cause I don't love my team, I do that's why I care that I don't care! Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel are cancers on this team . They have to go! End of FUCKING story! They have made bad move after bad move after shitty move and I'm sick of it! They traded the only guy doing anything right now 1) cause he's the only bargaining chip they have left and 2) cause Manuel doesn't like him. Its gorram high school f'n nonsense and as Mets fans we shouldn't stand for it. Get the bums out. we a have billion dollar gorgeous stadium that has seen nothing but disappointment since they cracked the seal. I say run out the rest of the season and start a new next year with new management. Or don't expect to see this 20 year fan there. NO WAY, NOT ME, NOT NEVER! We have money spend it get us some bats get us Some pitchers. Get rid of the damn dead weight. Its frustrating and we should be better than this. I want to see my team in October. I want my parade dammit.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Review of Fightstar "Be Human" by Charlie U.

UK Hard Rockers "Fightstar" have released there third Studio Album called "Be Human". This C.D stands out from the others due to its use of orchestra instruments and overall more pop-ish sound. The album starts off strong with "Calling On All Stations" which blends Fightstar's sound with orchestration elements flawlessly. The song is followed their first single off the album with another well done song, "The English Way" . However after this track the record appears to go down hill, the use of orchestra doesn't flow as well and as i stated before a good portion of the songs have a more pop feel, while this may not be a problem for new listeners of the band, but those who have listened to the band may not like the transition as much. Virtually all the other songs are sub-par at best, including a song or two which breaks from their new sound and returns to hard rock. Besides the two songs mentioned above, the only song that stands out is "Tonight We Burn", which makes the best out of both singers vocal abilities. Lyrical content of the c.d consist of typical Fightstar topics; Relationships, UK Politics, and a hint Sci-Fi. There lyrical style is fairly blunt yet very pleasant, easily my favorite part of the album.

Overall, "Be Human" displays Fightstar's flexibility with the rock genre, but this is accomplished by hindering of there sound. I would suggest you LISTEN to the C.D. Fightstar's my space currently has two singles from "Be Human" (www.myspace.com/fightstarmusic) and you can easily find the other tracks on YouTube. If you were in need to buy something of the c.d, the three songs i mention below would be best to buy, otherwise I'd recommend you check out one of there older albums. I recommend the c.d to those who are a fan of "Rock Opera", and I would tell you to avoid this if you listen to music only made in USA. I'd also like to point out if you purchase via itunes, you can get the bonus track "Unfamiliar Ceilings", which is an acoustic version of an older Fightstar song. I have not heard this version but the original song felt out of place for the band (hence the name I suppose).

Recommended Tracks: Calling On All Stations, The English Way, and Tonight We Burn
Not Recommended: The Other Nine Tracks On The C.D
